STATUS LINE TEST
Figure 1. Degree-output profile within the selected institution (by CIP2 field)
Tile size represents completions. Hover for full CIP title and counts.
Figure 2. Share of completions in the selected CIP2 field, by institution
Shows the percent of completions in the selected CIP2 area for each institution, using the same Major / Degree group / Award level filters.
Data & methodology
Data source
Data are based on completion counts reported to IPEDS for Academic Year 2023-2024. Counts are aggregated at the CIP2 level and may differ slightly from institution-published figures due to reporting windows, classification standards, or updates to data since reporting/retrieval. Only degrees that map to CIP codes are included; any non-CIP-mapped awards are not available in this dataset.
How to read the visuals
- Treemap: within the selected institution, each tile is a CIP2 area. The tile’s area is proportional to completions under the current filters.
- Comparison chart: for the selected CIP2, each bar is: (CIP2 completions) ÷ (total completions) for that institution under the same non-institution filters.
Filters
- Major: Major 1, Major 2, or All (combined).
- Degree group: Category grouping for award types (Bachelor's, Graduate or All).
- Award level: Award-level detail (or All). 'All' is relative to the Degree group already selected. Award levels included here are: Bachelor's, Masters, and Doctor's - Research/Scholarship. Other types of Doctoral degree are reported to IPEDS but are not included in this analysis.
Notes & limitations
- Color is mapped deterministically by CIP2 code for consistency across sessions. This supports comparison but does not imply ranking or magnitude.
- The comparison chart is intended for “share of completions” comparisons; it is not a count chart. Use hover tooltips for numerator/denominator values.
- CIP2 aggregation masks variation at finer (CIP6) levels.
Accessing the project and data
- Data was retrieved from the IPEDS Data Center using the Custom Data Files download tool to generate a CSV file for analysis. The data file used for this visualization is available in the GitHub project repository in Excel format.
